My Top 7 Grounding & Centering Tools Right Now: Autumn 23’
Autumn is such a beautiful time to turn back inward and settle the high and external energy of Summer. A time to reconnect with a slower pace both internally and externally.
This time of year can also bring us into the parts of ourselves that we buried during the summer months. Parts of ourselves that might need tending. This might look like giving ourselves extra grace, extra downtime, and extra warm tea.
Below are some of tools I’m using for tuning into this season:
READING:
The Turning of The Year: Lore and Legends of the Irish Seasons: by Eithne Massey
I found this book at a little bookstore off a cobblestone street in the city of Cork, in Ireland. Celtic lore and spirituality fasinated me (hence my daughter’s name; Finley, meaning Courages one in ancient Celtic). I turn to this book at the change of season to inspire a deeper connection to the shifts happening all around us.
I’m loving reading the chapter on Samhain. Especially as we enter the spooky season and in preparation for our upcoming half day healing retreat, The Well.
Hunt, Gather, Parent: What Ancient Cultures Can Teach Us About the Lost Art of Raising Happy, Helpful Little Humans by Michaeleen Doucleff, PHD
This book has turned into my favorite parenting book yet! It’s rooted in the belief that our children are capable of so much more than we often allow for. It teaches us that doing chores with children along side us, is the same as play for them. That discipline can be as quiet and gentle as a stern look.
Every tip and trick offered in the book has been hugely beneficial for creating a more calm and collaborative environment. Especially during growing periods with Finley. I highly recommend for any parent!
NOURISHING:
Eat Feel Fresh: A Contemporary, Plant-Based Ayurvedic Cookbook by Sahara Rose Ketabi, Deepak Chopra Md (Foreword)
I’ve loved turning to this book for Ayurveda wisdom and meals for balancing the Doshas and nourishing the body. I’ve especially loved nourishing the body with warming spices and blended soups.
I’ve always been interested in taking collagen. Yet I struggled to find a brand clean and bioavailable enough to take daily (If you know of any brands I’d love to know). But when I discovered this plant-based collagen blend from my favorite plant medicine apothecary, I immediately wanted to try it.
The dusty pink color of the powder alone makes me excited to drink it in my lemon or burdock root tonic every morning. It contains an array of adaptogens, ancient herbs, and flowers to help aid in repairing the bodies tissues. Which in turn helps the skin, hair, nails, and overall wellbeing.
SOOTHING:
Aphrodites Balm by Plant + Pleasure Apothecary
My dear friend Ella of Plant + Pleasure Apothecary created the most beautiful line of skincare products. Each made from her own hands created from foraged plants and soothing oils.
She recently brought her new line to Colorado and sold them alongside me at Awake Festival in Evergreen. I’ve been using this balm daily for my contact dermatitis brought on by my allergies to Ragweed. Its infused with wild rose, wild yarrow, vanilla bean, jojoba oil, tallow, and beeswax.
Lung Health & Immune System Support Chai by Wild Dreamer Farmacy
Chai is my favorite warm drink during fall and winter. I bought this beautiful caffeine-free chai from this Colorado local herbalist I love.
It’s made with herbs and spices that support the immune and nervous systems such, Astragalus, Cheng Pi, Tulsi, and Ashwaganda. I’ve been making an infusion and drinking a cup in the afternoon or evening.

I've shamelessly been loving my Autumn Spotify playlist. It's a blend of soothing and contemplative songs that reflect the transformative, calm energy of Autumn.
Hundred Acres Album by S.Carey
Another soothing album for relaxing go-to music while driving through the yellow-tree lined streets of Fall.

COOKING:
Easy Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies
Tis’ the season! These cookies ended up being more like muffin tops—super fluffy and moist but they’re delicious! Finley helped me make a big batch and I’ve been throwing a few in the oven when we need an evening treat with tea.
I’ve only recently discovered how much I adore overnight oats. They’re so easy to make and the perfect quick and nourishing breakfast.
No matter what shifts are happening in your life, remember to turn to what gives your soul nourishment. In every new chapter, let your heart guide you to tools and ways of caring for yourself. Enjoy the process of finding what brings grounding and centering throughout every stage.
